Eczema is a chronic, inflammatory skin disorder. It can appear as blisters that crust over to become scaly, itchy rashes, or as dry, thick patches of skin with scales. If a family member has or had an allergic disease, eczema, asthma or allergic rhinitis, your chances of getting eczema are higher. Seventy percent of patients with eczema have a family member with an allergic disease. Environmental factors are also thought to play a role.
